Abstract: Submerged jets entering shallow ambient water bodies often pass by an intermediate mixed flow region after surface/bottom contact. This zone is divided into two regions; weakly and strongly deflected plume regions. A model for the two regimes is formulated. This model is implemented within the Cornell Mixing Zone Expert System, Subsystem 1 (CORMIX1). Comparisons with available laboratory data support the model accuracy for analyzing the intermediate zone.
