Abstract: Geomorphology is emerging as an important contributing discipline for environmentally-aligned river management practices such as river rehabilitation. For its contribution to improve in time, post project appraisals are required to evaluate project effectiveness in geomorphic terms. This paper presents a procedure for a geomorphic Post Project Appraisals based on a compliance audit, a performance audit and a geomorphic evaluation over short and extended time periods. Brief details are provided on testing the procedure in two sites in south-east England. ‘One-shot’ geomorphic PPAs will become increasingly important until funding for routine monitoring of geomorphic variables after scheme construction becomes commonplace.
