Abstract: Minimum flow regulations for diverted streams should be derived from habitat requirements of animal or plant species or communities populating potentially the river bed and its riparian zones. Different habitats can be described as combination of physical parameters including their temporal and spatial variability. Species demands regarding those physical habitat factors are partially known. In a case study newly developed computer simulation models are used for habitat quality and availability evaluation.
