Abstract: The "Minimum Acceptable Flow" in a river is necessary for the preservation of aquatic life and hampers the abstraction of water for other uses. Scarce hydrological input to a reservoir cannot guarantee the possibility of meeting both the ecological and agricultural demand and rationing criteria must be adopted. A simplified programming model can be helpful in the assessment of the working conditions of the reservoir and to reduce to a minimum the expected deficit.
