Abstract: A major project of over 10,000 ha of reclamation is under construction at Yunlin county for basic industries and other downstream industries. The dominated factors for the morphological development of Yunlin coast are summer flood and persistent winter wind-wave actions. The sandbars along Yunlin coast can be separated into two independent movement systems and both sandbar systems have been decaying. A hypothesis for the historical and present on-going morphological development process for the Yunlin coast was formulated. The MIKE 21 nearshore spectral wave model, depth averaged flow model, and sediment transport model were conducted for different phases of construction to evaluate the impacts of the reclamation. Numerical simulations were performed with monthly updated bathemetric data and coastal structures based on the construction progress.
