Abstract: A new design strategy using one stochastic control algorithm to select the number and locations of measurement sensors and one frequency response dynamic system to extend the total duration and geographical locations was proposed. This three-step design procedure offers a systematic approach of optimal field data collection for model verification. The mathematical formulation and designing concept was derived in an estuary hydrodynamic system. The methodology also can apply to other water related systems, such as groundwater flow and riverine dynamics.
