Abstract: The effects of the modified Ackers and White (1973) sediment transport formula on the results of the White et al (1981) theory for prediction of the physical parameters of stable straight channels are investigated. In order to verify the effects, a total of 222 field and laboratory observations including the experimental data of Babaeyan-Koopaei (1996) have been used. The results show that the modification of the Ackers and White (1973) equation has improved the predicted values of mean depth, water surface width, and sediment concentration of the White et al (1981) theory, but the difference between the predicted and observed values of slope has increased.
