Abstract: Wave rider buoys records, measured off the west coast of Portugal and covering a wide range of sea conditions, were analysed by zero-up-crossing and a new criterion of defining discrete waves from sea surface elevations time series, called orbital criterion. Statistics of maximum and conditional run of wave groups are compared and presented.
