Abstract: The analysis of suspended-load transport of sediment mixtures is more complex than for uniform sediment. Einstein(1950) found that the hydro dynamic lift caused by turbulent flow is attributed to particle movement and entrainment. In a study on armoring effects which develop at the bed surface, Gessler (1970) developed an incipient motion model in which the shear stress fluctuations and critical shear stress is correlated. Using the same concept, Grass (1971) studied an incipient motion of fine bed sand. His study demonstrated that the boundary region turbulence is not only relevant to the initial instability, but also to the subsequent and highly complex interaction between the fluid and the loose boundary. Considering the effects of turbulence, this paper presents a new approaoch for calculating fractional suspended sediment transport rates for sediment mixtures.
