Abstract: The UK Flood Channel Facility (FCF), funded originally by the Science and Engineering Research Council (now the EPSRC), was constructed at HR Wallingford in 1985-86. It was intended to provide a large scale indoor experimental facility for research teams both from the universities and from industry to study the mechanics of two-stage channel flow. The ultimate aim was to provide river engineers with a reliable design manual for two-stage channels.
