Abstract: Waste water disposal in the ocean by means of submerged multiport diffusers is an effective and economically feasible water quality management solution for many coastal cities, in particular if it is combined with some form of primary or secondary treatment (National Research Council,1993). In this study, we are concerned with the behavior of the merging jets/plumes originating from the central portion of a long diffuser that is laid perpendicularly to the shoreline and to the prevailing ambient currents. The diffuser is assumed to be located in"deep"unstratified water, giving rise to a distinct ascending plume of buoyant water without localized near-field instabilities (Jirka and Harleman,1979)
