Abstract: Standard rectangular sharp crested weir placed perpendicular to the flow is widely used as a main device for discharge measurement. Using the conventional weir equation and Rehbocks' formula for the discharge coefficient, the discharge depends on the length of the weir and the head on the weir. In order to increase the efficiency of the weir, it can be used oblique; that is to increase the effective length and decrease the head. The result from comprehensive set of tests show that for the oblique weir, as the angle increases from 0° to 45°, C_d increases with increasing head, for 45°, C_d is constant and for higher angles, C_d decreases with increasing head.
