Abstract: The velocity field downstream an impeller was measured in the laboratory using a two-component laser doppler velocimeter. Three different impeller speeds were investigated and the velocity was measured at downstream cross-sections ranging from 0.128D to 12D, where D is the impeller diameter. This paper discusses the development of the mean axial velocity profile in the zone of flow establishment and the zone of established flow, the evolution of the impeller jet towards self-similarity, and the radial spread of the jet.
