Abstract: The Czech Republic is one of the most polluted areas in Europe. The burning of brown coal with a high sulphur content in power stations results in unacceptable air pollution which has to be decreased. Czech power stations dispose of several million tons of pulverised fuel ash and bottom ash each year and hence a large quantities of waste has to be disposed of in waste disposal sites. In the majority of cases, hydraulic transport by pipeline to settling lagoons is used, with a rather low solids volumetric concentration, namely from 5 to 15 %.
