Abstract: Maritime Hydraulics (MH), like many other disciplines in the field of science and engineering, is being confronted with the fact that it can hardly survive on its own in an ever more complex world. That MH is not a purpose on its own, but is utilized to achieve another goal is nothing new. New is the increasing awareness that this goal is part of a larger system, which involves a variety of disciplines, functions and stakeholders.
