Abstract: Numerical modelling of oceanographic flows linking shallow water small-scale patterms observed in coastal areas to meso- and large-scale patterns observed in the deep ocean is a complex task. The equilibrium of water masses is often baroclinic. Modelling of these water bodies must be tridimensional and has to take into account density stratification effects due to heat and salinity. Such models have been developed for several years but few of them have been applied to the study of deep coastal waters as encountered in the mountainous coastal areas of the Mediterranean sea.
