Abstract: This paper describes a tridimensional approach for the analysis of the oil dispersion phenomena in the sea: at the marine surface the oil slick evolution is simulated by solving the bidimensional mass balance equation on the Eulerian grid, while the oil dispersion into the water column is analysed by a tidimensional Lagrangian scheme. The simulations compare favourably withthe field measurements carried out during the MC Haven tanker accident in the Gulf ofGenova.
