Abstract: For tidal waters in general and for estuaries in particular relatively few turbulence studies on stratified flow conditions have been undertaken due to the physical difficulties of making measurements and the complexity of the flow field generated by the interaction of tidal oscillations, solute induced density gradients and variations in the channel roughness and geometry.
