Abstract: Local scour is ubiquitous in the coastal zone, from the smallest pebble to the largest natural and manmade structures, scour is an ever present threat to structural integrity. Unfortunately, although it is the commonest phenomenon in the coastal zone where hard meets soft it is also probably the least well understood and the least predictable.
