Abstract: In order to exploit sea space in the near future, it is indispensable to construct breakwaters to create calm sea. Caisson type breakwaters will be advantageous for this purpose, because concrete caissons are very stable against severe wave actions and require less material even in deepwaters. In addition, the breakwater's function and stability can be easily improved by modifying the caisson shape, and various new caissons are already developed for deepwater breakwaters.
