Abstract: Tule encroachment is a severe management problem in open channels in the semi- and arid American West For example, within the Owens valley, California, this species has occluded much of the Lower Owens River channel whose flow has been diverted since l9l2 to supply the city of Los Angeles some 300km to the south.
