Degradation Flushing Processes in Reservoir

Abstract: To sustain the useful storage of a reservoir, hydraulic flushing techniques have been employed successfully in many field cases around the world and proved to be effective if the reservoir water level can be drawn down significantly. Usually, it results in strong degradation in the reservoir during drawdown operations. In this paper, experiments were conducted to investigate the flushing processes. Outlet discharge, outflow sediment discharge, water and bed elevations at certain cross sections were measured. An unsteady mobile-bed model was established to simulate degradation flushing processes in reservoir. It was shown that the simulated results of the bed elevation changes were in good agreement with the measured data from the experiment.
