Abstract: The paper reviews the methods used for estimation of sediment load entering into the Tarbela Reservoir. An effort is made to analyse the sedimentation trend in the reservoir compared to the one assumed at the planning and design stage on the basis of actual sediment data obtained by Hydrographic Survey from 1974 to 1993. The future useful life of the reservoir has been estimated using measured data and possible alternatives are discussed to reduce and/or cover up the storage lost due to sedimentation in Tarbela Reservoir.
