Abstract: On the Soca river, which is one of the most beautiful rivers in Slovenia, three hydroelectric power plants (HEPP) have been built. The first one in the chain, Doblar HEPP, was constructed in the year 1938. The reservoir containing approx. 5.5x 10^6 m^3 of water was formed on the Soca river behind the dam at Podselo village. A backwater effect influenced the river reach from the dam to the upstream situated town of Tolmin and Soca's tributary Idrijca river reach upstream to the Baca village. This village was occasionally flooded due to high discharges in the wet period during the years 1961 to 1965 and later in the years 1979, 1990 and 1992.
