Abstract: The water resources development potential of the Mae Klong river basin, Thailand has been determined for short term plan (1992-1996) and long term (1997-2006) plan periods by using HEC-3 reservoir operation simulation model and monthly hydrological data from 1965-1991. It is found that based on the measured irrigation efficiencies, the water requirements for irrigation, water supply, salinity control and transbasin diversion can be satisfied without violating irrigation shortage constraint taking hydropower as the by-product. Environmental impacts of two large scale storage dams are described. A management plan for the basin water resources has been recommended.
