Abstract: Multireservoirs in parallel are located on separated streams. In order to utilize downstream lateral streamflow which is not controlled by any dam, the intake of a multireservoir system is designed in the downstream of the confluence of all the streams. In this paper, a strategy called balanced level indices (BLI) is verified to be the most efficient tool for this system operation. Comparison of operation simulation results using different strategies indicates that BLI will produce the greatest water yield for various degrees of allowable water shortage.
