Abstract: The increasing public awareness of the importance of the conservation of natural beauty and the concern about the catastrophic consequences from environmental disasters, have resulted in numerous environmental related cases being brought to the courts. Providing scientific evidence in these cases is crucial in determining their outcome. Recent case studies have shown that there is a demand for highly trained engineers and scientists to become technical "experts" capable of providing factual information and opinion evidence in environmental court cases.
