Abstract: At two storm events, the sediment budget was calculated for a lock-regulated section of Neckar River near Lauffen, Germany from concentration of suspended particulate matter (SPM) measured at its upstream and downstream boundaries. Sampling points proved to be representative, as their SPM concentration showed deviation from flow-weighted cross-sectional average by about 1%. Difference between outflowing and inflowing mass of SPM was about 32,000 tons for the first flood and about 24,000 tons for the second storm event. This is due to considerable net erosion of channel sediments from the regarded river-lock, especially in its lower reach.
