Abstract: The 1910 flood on the River Doubs is the reference flood for risk analysis. The detailed processes during this reference flood are investigated using several hydrodynamic models. A 2-D model that includes the blocks of buildings and the detailed representation of the flood defense walls demonstrates the influence of these structures on the local flood features, particularly the concentration of the flow in the streets. However, the peak flow elevation can be conveniently calculated even using a 1-D model. The uncertainty due to the failure of the flood defense walls can easily be estimated because, in the case of Besanon, its influence is only for local
