Abstract: In winter, large amount of floating ice threatens the water intake safety of thermal/nuclear power stations during the maximum ice period or melting ice period in the northern sea area. In this paper, we discussed a simple method on physical model test, which can simulate floating ice movement in water intake sea area and reveal floating ice transportation features in the near-field of power station water intake, it also provides a simple method for comparing prevention schemes of floating ice impact to water intake, as well as the basis for the design of water intake and outlet project of power plant.
