Abstract: This paper presents a numerical model study on anchor ice formation and evolution in the Sundance Rapids area using the CRISSP2D model. The model domain extends from the Limestone Generating Station in northern Manitoba along the Nelson River approximately 4.5 kilometers downstream. The unique channel characteristics make this an exceptionally favorable site for the formation of anchor ice each winter. It was found that the model was able to replicate the border ice conditions at the site with good accuracy. The model results on anchor ice evolution are examined and compared with field data. The results were found to be very encouraging.
