Abstract: In Hokkaido, Japan, the aquaculture has been performed in many semi-closed water areas. Ice control structures to prevent the invasion of ice floes had started to be installed at inlets of some of those areas. However, these structures have been used only during winter. In this paper, the effective use of these structures aiming the improvement of the water quality of these areas is proposed. By numerical analyses, they became clear that it is possible to supply the seawater to the center part of the area by use of this structure as a training dike at the time of inflow, and in the case that the water area has two or more inlets, it is possible to transfer the seawater by producing the water current in an arbitrary direction by use of this structure as a gorge at one inlet at the time of outflow.
