Abstract: The process of sea ice pile-up on an inclined structure is simplified to a two-dimension dynamic problem. Assuming the sea ice to be viscous-elastic material, the process of sea ice pile-up is simulated by using the discrete element method, which is based on the simulation of systems of multitudinous polygonal blocks. And, the model is verified to be reasonable and feasible via the comparison with the 2D theory and physical experiments.
