Abstract: The yield criteria of pack ice and their impact on the orientation of linear kinematic features are discussed. Several typical yield curves are investigated whether they are capable to reproduce the observed features in pack ice. The analyses show that the yield curves of diamond and hexagon are unable to provide some of the desired features, while those of ellipse, parabolic lens and teardrop are basically able to offer these characteristics. The ice-cream cone is of very strong capability to consist with the observed kinematic features; however, a final comprehensive observation is needed to support this conclusion.
