Abstract: The paper describes two examples of winterflooding caused by extreme frazil formation in regulated rivers. In one case the flooding was caused by accumulation of frazil in the transition zone to an area with less slope. It was an even regulated discharge here. In the other case the flooding was caused by an extremely high anchor ice dam. In this river there was daily regulation of the discharge at the time the dam was formed. Possible measures to avoid such happenings in the future are discussed.
