Abstract: The Okhotsk Sea of Hokkaido is covered with drift ice in winter. Drift ice that rushesjnto Saroma Lagoon cause heavy damage to scallops and oysters, and aquacultural facilities. So, an ice boom that prevents drift ice from rushing into the lagoon, especially one with a net at the center of lagoon mouth to completely shut out the drift ice, started being constructed in 1994, and 80 % is now completed. However, a decrease of the amount of sea water exchange is of concern. In this paper, we describe two experiments of movements of ice floes, and prove that quality of water does not worsen because of ice boom construction.
