Abstract: Experimental research of a flow under ice cover is reported. The observed data on velocity profiles at five cross-sections of the river in winter are presented. Power law and velocity defect law are used to describe vertical distribution of stream-wise velocity. Shear velocities obtained with the use of these two methods are compared. Two approaches to description of velocity distribution of ice-covered flows as a function of depth are discussed.
