Abstract: A discrete-parcel model with smoothed particle hydrodynamics for sea ice dynamics is presented. The discrete-parcel method is a free Lagrangian method, which has many advantages over Eulerian numerical methods. It has less numerical diffusion and is more flexible in treating complex ice processes. In this paper, the discrete-parcel method is compared with Eulerian finite difference methods and the semi-Lagrangian PIC method, and is used to simulate the Bohai Sea ice dynamics.
