Abstract: The ice load is usually the predominant design criterion for offshore structures used in the ocean engineering in Liaodong Gulf. When the ice sheet fails by a crushing process, the ice load is assumed to be related on the uniaxial compressive strength of the ice sheet. Therefore, the prediction mode of ice sheet compressive strength based on the environmental conditions is quite important for the design of the ocean engineering in Liaodong Gulf. The mode has set up following the principle of Timco and Frederking's idea. In the mode, the relations between ice intrinsic parameters, temperature, density, salinity and ice extrinsic parameters, air temperature, ice thickness; and the relation of ice strength with porosity in ice samples, are given in this paper based on the data resources that come from the work on the Liaodong Gulf ice study in-situ and in laboratory over 30 years. I. the ice surface temperature and air temperature came from the air-ice-water investigation; 2. the mean salinity in ice sheet and the ice sheet thickness was the results over 30 year ice breaker investigation in Liaodong Gulf; 3. the density variety in whole ice period was statistical result of many times ice investigation in-situ; 4. the compressive strength with the porosity in ice sample was finished in strict laboratory conditions. Some special assumptions are used from the characteristics of ice in Liaodong Gulf.
