Abstract: Structures constructed using artificially produced ice (spray ice) as building material, have been used in the North-American arctic as exploratory drilling platforms, protective barriers surrounding drilling structures and reinforcement of ice roads across rivers and lakes. At present public information on the mechanical and physical properties of undisturbed field produced spray ice is scarce. This paper discusses previous laboratory testing of spray ice and presents results from a new study of the mechanical properties of the material.
