Abstract: Recently, the National Research Council (NRC) of Canada became the recipients of sophisticated deterministic and probabilistic calculation models which had been developed by Gulf Canada Resources Ltd. These models have been used for predicting ice forces on offshore structures. In addition to their ice load calculation and probabilistic components, they contain a great deal of information on the environmental factors which affect ice forces. These models can be used to gain a better appreciation of the important parameters which affect the ice forces on an offshore structure. As a first step in using these models, the deterministic model was used to predict the ice forces on a structure over a wide range of parametric variation. A simple scenario of an offshore structure subjected to a collision by a multi-year floe was assumed, and the relative importance of a number of factors was assessed.
