Abstract: The traditional system for the collection, procession and presentation of information on the ice cover of the Arctic and Antarctic seas implies a significant generalization of ice characteristics, as it aims to resolve the main scientific problem to develop the climatic forecast of total ice distribution. However, there is a wide range of research and practical questions, in particular, related with ice shipping, to address which one requires the ice information directly relevant to the navigation routes and much more detailed. Such information is usually called specialized ice information for shipping.
