Abstract: This paper provides an overview of the effect of model ice density on the prediction of ice forces on offshore structures and vessels. A brief review of various studies is presented. Results from model test experiments are presented to confirm the assumptions made in the past to correct for the density. Particular emphasis is placed on the effect of the ice density on the resistance in rubble ice where the effect of the ice density is the most serious in providing substantial errors.
