Abstract: An artificial ecosystem has been developed for the systematical and effective control of cyanobacteria in the runoff zone, front reservoir, reservoir branch and front of the dam area of a valley reservoir. The technical construction of the artificial ecosystem has several purposes. The first is to reduce or control the total nitrogen and total phosphorus in the river basin by protection projects at the water source. The second is to further reduce pollutants, nitrogen and phosphorus by an ecological front reservoir project while simultaneously providing germplasm resources for the proliferation of large aquatic animals and plants in the reservoir. The third is to remove eichhornia crassipes and other pollutants from upstream floating water before it enters the main reservoir by trash rack and cleaning operation projects behind the ecological front reservoir in order to further improve the water quality and prevent secondary pollution. The fourth is to use the integrated ecological restoration engineering technology in the reservoir area and reservoir branch to improve the habitat environment, structure and function, to improve the living space and quality of the environment for large aquatic animals and plants and to promote rapid growth, reproduction and stability, thus suppressing and eliminating the bloom-generating conditions for cyanobacteria. The fifth is to take further biological control measures and use ecological restoration to thoroughly improve the water's aquatic biological structure and ecological system through a virtuous cycle in order to eradicate the bloom, development and change of cyanobacteria. And the sixth is to prevent the "escape of fish" and "fish drain" in the dispatch and operation of the reservoir by barring fish establishment, to eradicate the imbalance of the biological and ecological structure due to the "escape of fish" to prevent the reserve or vicious circle of the water's ecological system. The results shows that the reasonable application of different ecological restoration devices and measures in different spatial locations of the reservoir are having a significant effect on the control of cyanobacteria
