Abstract: The air-bubble methods have been developed and used at the several places in the world as the management for sea ices and ice-freezing problems. The method mentioned here is a first developed and tested investigation of the laboratory and the field by the Civil Engineering Research Institute, Hokkaido Development Bureau. The fishing harbor which the test has been done is one of the artificially excavated ports in Hokkaido, and just under construction now. According to the more advancement of the construction of the interior wharves, the more ice-freezing problems will be occurred, which cause many troubles for using the wharves during a winter season. The paper will be discussed about the results of laboratory tests which have been done at the institute and the field tests in 1989, at the Ohtsu-fishing harbor, include the change of sea water environment, and the running costs by the method.
