Abstract: The paper describes a method for calculating global ice loads necessary to design bottom founded offshore structures intended to operate year round in the arctic conditions of the Beafort Sea. Extensive ice tank tests were conducted using three different types of model ice materials and pressure ridge breaking loads are compared. A Monte Carlo simulation was developed to establish probabilistic design ice loads based on return period intervals.
