Abstract: A two dimension numerical forecast model of ice drift has been developed based on the ice dynamics and the specific features of the winter ice field in the Bohai Sea. The contribution of all driving forces to ice drift in this model, the correctness and the forecasting usefulness of the model were tested. To simulate the interaction among ice-packs, the ice was regarded as two demension continuum particles based on the assumption ice is a compressible fluid of viscosity-plasticity of non-linear. According to the Bingham's multi-pattern of 'seris' and’parallel’ of an object structural member of movement in the rheologic mechanics. [equation] a constitutive law equation suitable for the Bingham object deformation law has been established which can be basically used to express ice material internal sturctures and physical mechanics features. The ADI method and the grid system of criss-cross were adopted to solve two demension ice dynamics equations of viscosity-plasticity of non-linear by utilization of coupled wind and tidal current fields as the dynamic conditions of ice drift. In order to simplify and directly checking and analysing the forecast possiblity of the model during the preliminary experiment, thermodynamic processes of ice growth and decay were neglected. The result shown that the model has the ability of repeat ion ice field motion and ice mass trans-potation, the ice drift mainly depends upon the action of wind and current in the Bohai Sea which throughout the whole area is not covered with sea ice.
