Abstract: Laboratory experiments to investigate the interaction between a fixed 45° conical structure and multi-year pressure ridges frozen into level ice fields were carried out at Fleet Technology Limited's (formerly Arctec Canada Limited) laboratory in Montreal, Canada. The experiment was initiated by Exxon Production Research. The multi-year ridges and the surrounding ice sheets were prepared using MOD-ICE, a synthetic material that simulates natural ice at scales between 1:5 and 1:75. The program was carried out under three separate groups, during which fifty ridges were tested. Three interaction scenarios consisting of broadside, end-on and a 45° angle of orientation were completed.
