Abstract: A probabilistic model is described which computes multiyear ice ridge loads for conical structures. Ridge loads are computed in the model as a function of ridge ride-up force, floe driving force and exposure to multiyear ice. A methodology to develop probabilistic terms for each of these parameters is shown using historical environmental data and existing force computation methodology. Resulting design loads are illustrated for an example Beaufort Sea drilling structure. The methodology presented in this paper represents a rational means for computing structure load which allows for the selection of structural design criteria based on a known measure of uncertainty.
