Abstract: The objective of this paper is to investigate the force transfer mechanisms through rubble piles and pressure ridges formed from multi-year ice. Determination of the loads which can be transmitted through a rubblized zone is important because it may provide an upper limit to the forces ice can exert on a structure. Predictions of ridging loads to date differ by orders of magnitude and do not address ridge building mechanisms in an explicit sense.
